Episode 1 - Bacon Brownies

On this, the maiden voyage of the Good Food Reviewed Podcast, we set out for something truly original and unique. Bacon brownies. Yes we know exactly how that sounds, and we had the same look on our face when we saw it. However, we are a brave couple of rednecks, and we dove right in. In fact Jimmy, my co-host, is under the believe that almost everything could be improved with bacon. No matter how you think you are going to come down on this, you have to try this out.

In the video above, you may have noticed that we neglected to pour our melted chocolate in. Don't worry, it went in at the end.

This recipe has been modified from the original found at the Emerald Street website. Nigella Lawson was a guest editor for a week, and she brought along this recipe. We changed it up by adding in vanilla, exchanging the golden syrup for Maple syrup, we used semi-sweet chocolate instead of dark chocolate, and we added milk. We always recommend that you try a recipe first before you change it up.

As a reminder, we tried a different version of this recipe, found here, by a gentleman that was going for gluten free and lower carbs. I respect his dietary needs, but we did not find that very tasty at all. Sorry....

Going back to the original was far better, and after a batch of those, we changed it into the final product that we brought to you.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup salted butter
1/2 cup cocoa powder
4 eggs
4 TBSP maple syrup
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate
4 slices of hickory bacon
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup milk
1 cup brown sugar
1 TBSP vanilla

Shopping List:
As we were putting this together, our wives came into the room. They explained that listing the prices we paid was silly. What we paid in our town, in our state, and in our country, will be different than what you will pay. As always, we think our wives are smarter than us. So we just said, "Yes dear."

Flour
Cocoa Powder
Baking Powder
Brown Sugar
Semi-Sweet Chocolate chips
Salted Butter
Bacon
Eggs
Almond Milk
Maple Syrup
Vanilla

    1. Now do you mean Chili Peppers? If so I agree. Chocolate and spice have been used in the south America for hundreds of years, and now thinking about it I might add a little Cayenne the next time I make them.

    2. Ehm yes, in Germany we call them just Chilli :-)
Yeah, the Mayas/Inkas (?) used to drink Cacao Powder with Milk and Chilli =)

Chocolate + Chilli Pepper is a damn good combination.

I will try the bacon brownies myself too, I love food & cooking, I also do a lot of experimental things and combine ingredients where *normal* people would think: "what??!that's not going to work.." (and in the end it always does)

I am keen to see more =)
